Brussels Griffon

A Brussels Griffon is a breed of dog, named for the city of their origin, Brussels, Belgium. Part of the toy dog category, the breed is generally small, with a flat face, prominent chin, and large wide-set eyes that gives the Griffon an almost human expression - and are often compared to an Ewok.

To help keep rats away, Belgium coachmen used to keep small terriers called Griffons d’Ecurie in their stables. At some point in the 1800's, these coachmen bred their Griffons with the Pug. Since then, the breed has evolved into an alert and the ultimate devoted companion. The adult Brussels Griffon weighs between 6 and 12 pounds, and has either a rough or smooth coat. They are also known to be a bit sensitive, have a huge heart, and a strong desire to snuggle and be with his or her master.
